IRIS NEBULA WIDFIELD

NGC 7023, known as the Iris nebula, is a reflection nebula visible in the northern constellation Cepheus. About 1400 light years from the Earth, it was discovered by William Herschel in 1794. Probably the main star responsible for the illumination of the nebula is the star HD 200775, which would be surrounded by the nebula, together with other less brilliant stars born from its dust and which form the open cluster.
NGC 7023 is probably part of the vast Cepheus Molecular Cloud Complex. A portion of this complex is visible in photos, in addition to the Iris and like any nebular complex, it's a very difficult task to get the details out. This complex in particular is part of the Orion arm and together with the Orion complex, it's one of the star-forming regions closest to us.

Probabilmente la stella principale responsabile della illuminazione della nebulosa è la stella HD 200775, la quale si troverebbe avvolta dalla nebulosa, assieme ad altre stelle meno brillanti nate dalle sue polveri e che vanno a formare l'ammasso aperto associato.
NGC 7023 fa probabilmente parte del vasto complesso nebuloso molecolare di Cefeo. Una porzione di questo complesso è visibile in foto, oltre alla Iris e come ogni complesso nebulare, è un'impresa ardua tirare fuori dei dettagli. Questo complesso in particolare fa parte del braccio di Orione e insieme al complesso di Orione, è una delle regioni di formazione stellare più vicine a noi.
